INTERNAL CONVERSION (DECAY)

1. This occurs when an excited nucleus transfers energy to an orbital electron rather than emitting a Gamma ray.

2. Electron energy = excitation energy - electron binding energy.

3. Characteristic X-rays or Auger electrons are produced as the electron shell vacancy fills.
