EQUIVALENT DOSE

1. (where ω R = radiation weighting factor).

2. ω R is 1 for X-rays, gamma rays and β-particles.

3. ω R is 20 for α-particles (as they are high LET particles).

4. Unit is the sievert (Sv) which is measured in J / Kg.

5. In diagnostic radiology, equivalent dose = absorbed dose (as x-rays, gamma rays and beta particles are commonly used).

6. KERMA determines => Absorbed Dose determines => Equivalent Dose determines => Effective Dose.
