EFFECTIVE HALF-LIFE

Physics

EFFECTIVE HALF-LIFE

1. A pharmaceutical labelled with a radionuclide is called a radiopharmaceutical.

2. If an un-labelled pharmaceutical is administered, it will eventually be eliminated from the body and, therefore, is said to have a biological half life (t biol ).

3. If a radiopharmaceutical is left in a vial, it will decay with its physical half life, t phys

4. If a radiopharmaceutical is given to a patient, both t biol and t phys impact on its effective half life.
