CT RESOLUTION-FACTORS AFFECTING IMAGE QUALITY

1. mAs.
2. kVp.
3. Sampling frequency: related to the Nyquist frequency.
4. Slice thickness, pitch: thicker => ↑ contrast resolution + ↓ noise; thinner => ↑ spatial resolution + ↑ noise.
5. Focal spot.
6. Patient size.
7. Detector size: larger detector => better contrast resolution; smaller detector => better spatial resolution.
8. Pixel size: larger pixel => better contrast resolution; smaller pixels => better spatial resolution.
9. Reconstruction algorithm.
10. Focal spot.
11. Artefacts.
