MAMMOGRAPHY-FILTER MATERIALS

1. Filters are incorporated after the X-ray tube.
2. Usually molybdenum again.
3. Occasionally use rhodium filter if the breast is large (more penetrating).
4. Rule of thumb for progressively increasing breast thickness (target-filter): Mo-Mo => Mo-Rh => Rh-Rh.

WE DON'T USE Rh-Mo
5. Because the characteristic radiation of Rh is 20 and 23 keV and K-edge of Mo is 20 keV, hence Mo will filter out all the useful characteristic radiation.
