SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS (SLE)-INVESTIGATIONS

1. The ANA is the highest sensitivity for SLE (99% of patients with active disease have a positive test), but poor specificity. Negative ANA basically excludes SLE.

2. Among the subtypes of ANA, anti-dsDNA and anti-Sm in high titers are very specific.

3. Low levels of C3 & C4 signal a flare of SLE.
