ASIA IMPAIRMENT GRADING

- Neurological level = lowest level of intact sensation + anti-gravity muscle function (provided they are normal above).
- Neurological level of injury is the most caudal level at which both the sensory and motor modalities are intact on both sides of the body.

1. ASIA A = Complete injury. No voluntary anal contraction + no sensation at sacral segments (S4-5) + no deep anal sensation.
2. ASIA B = Sensory incomplete. No voluntary anal contraction/motor function >3 levels below NLI + but sensation present anywhere (to any degree) below NLI.
3. ASIA C = Motor incomplete. Voluntary anal contraction + > 50% of motor function < 3 below NLI.
4. ASIA D = Motor incomplete. Voluntary anal contraction + > 50% of motor function > 3 below NLI.
5. ASIA E = intact motor + sensory function.
