CRPS TYPE 1-STAGES

1. Stage 1 (acute) - burning pain, edema, hyperaesthesia/allodynia, vasomotor changes in the hands & fingers (increased nail/hair growth, hyperthermia/hypothermia, sweating). Lasts 3-6 months.

2. Stage 2 (dystrophy) - pain becomes more intense and spreads proximally, brawny edema, atrophic nails, decreased ROM, mottled skin, early atrophy. Lasts 3-6 months.

3. Stage 3 (atrophy) - pain decreases, trophic changes occur (skin pale and shiny), muscle atrophy, contractures, bone demineralization leads to tapering digits.
