STROKE-SEIZURES

Neurology

STROKE-SEIZURES

1. May occur at the time of stroke (2.5% had seizures within 48hrs), within 1-2 weeks or after 2 weeks.

2. Majority of seizures were GTC.

3. Risk factors: older age, cortical lesions (parietal/temporal haemorrhage & ischemic cortical strokes), persistent paresis, confusion.

4. Early seizures (due to acute metabolic derangements) tend not to recur, those occurring > 2 weeks post-stroke recur more often.
