Neurology

STROKE-INTRA-ARTERIAL THROMBOLYTIC THERAPY

1. Intra-arterial fibrinolysis is beneficial for carefully selected patients with major ischemic strokes < 6 hours caused by occlusion of the MCA who are not candidates for IV fibrinolytics.

2. Reasonable in patients who have contraindications to use of IV fibrinolytics.

3. Reasonable as rescue therapy in patients with large occlusions who have not responded to IV fibrinolytics.
