STROKE-BASILAR ARTERY OCCLUSION SYNDROME

ETIOLOGY
1. Thrombosis of the main artery, B/L vertebral arteries or unilateral dominant vertebral artery.
2. Emboli passing through the vertebrals usually lodge in the PCA.

SYNDROMES
3. Infarction of the MLF leads to internuclear opthalmoplegia & horizontal gaze palsy.
4. Infarction of the ventral pons leads to locked in syndrome (tetraparesis with retained ability to blink and move eyes vertically).
