MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS-INTRODUCTION

1. MS is a demyelinating disease of the CNS that begins between the ages of 20-30 yrs.

2. Women are affected more often than men (2:1)

3. 3 types: (a) Relapsing-remitting [RLRM] (b) Secondary progressive (c) Primary progressive

4. The relapsing-remitting type (initially normal but later on with residual deficit between spells) can transform into the progressive type.

5. 85% of cases are initially RLRM, after several years, transform to the progressive type.
