IDIOPATHIC INTRACRANIAL HYPERTENSION/PSEUDOTUMOR CEREBRI-MANAGEMENT

1. Low-sodium weight-reducing diet, symptomatic treatment for headaches, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (acetazolamide), and prevention of vision loss.

2. Repeat lumbar punctures, with drainage of sufficient fluid to maintain CSF pressure < 20 cm H 2 O, may be helpful in 25%.

3. Unilateral optic nerve sheath fenestration may preserve vision in the acute setting.

4. In patients whose headaches are unresponsive to medications and weight reduction, LP shunt may have considerable success.
