ESSENTIAL TREMOR

1. Essential tremor is the most common type of non-physiologic tremor and is often familial.

2. It affects the hands as a postural and action tremor with a frequency of 4-8 Hz.

3. Typically benign but sometimes results in functional disability.

4. Patients tell you that their tremor improves after an alcoholic drink.

5. Propranolol and primidone are effective in reducing the limb tremors.
