TYPE 2 RENAL TUBULAR ACIDOSIS (RTA)

1. Type 2 proximal RTA is a problem with bicarbonate resorption in the proximal tubule.

2. Type 2 RTA = bicarbonate wasting.

3. Along with this, co-transport of Na + with glucose, amino acids, Cl - , and K + is also affected.

4. May present as Fanconi syndrome - glucosuria, amino aciduria, and wasting of other solutes, including Mg, uric acid, and phosphorus.
