SECONDARY HYPERTENSION-PHAEOCHROMOCYTOMA

1. Very rare catecholamine-secreting tumors arising from chromaffin tissue. 90% occur in the adrenal medulla. The rest are abdominal or thoracic.

2. 10% are bilateral; 10% are malignant; and 10% are familial.

3. Paroxysmal signs and symptoms include palpitations, dizziness, and hypertension.

4. Associated with MEN 2 syndrome.
