ACUTE PANCREATITIS-SEVERITY

Severe pancreatitis is associated with necrosis and causes shock and multiorgan failure. Multiorgan failure indicators:
1. CNS: altered sensorium
2. Heart: systolic BP < 90 mmHg; tachycardia> 130 bpm
3. Lungs: P0 2 < 60 mmHg
4. Renal: progressive azotemia or oliguria to < 50 mL/hr
5. Hemoconcentration
6. Metabolic: low calcium (< 8 mg/dL) and albumin < 3.2 g/dL
