PITUITARY TUMORS

Abnormal proliferation of cells from anterior pituitary.
1. Lactotrophs (PRL) - most common macroadenomas.
2. Gonadotrophs (LH+FSH) - common macroadenomas, P/W mass effect +/- hormonally silent/hyposecretion/hypersecretion.
3. Corticotrophs (ACTH) - Cushing's disease.
4. Somatotrophs (GH) - acromegaly.
5. Thyrotrophs (TRH) - hyperthyroidism (uncommon).
6. Mixed cell types (PRL + GH) - hyperprolactinemia + acromegaly.
