PITUITARY APOPLEXY

1. P/W sudden onset headache, meningismus, visual field defect, nausea/vomiting, fluctuating consciousness.
2. Danger - hypotension.
3. DDx - SAH, Sheehan's syndrome.
4. Inx - low serum cortisol.
5. Imaging - plain CT brain.
6. Indication for emergent surgery - visual defect, mass effect causing decreased consciousness.
7. Medical managament - corticosteroids.
