CARDIAC PLEXUS

1. FUNCTION - vasomotor to coronary arteries; cardioinhibition/cardioacceleration to SA + AV nodes, ventricular bundle; branches to ventricles + pulmonary plexus.

2. SUPERFICIAL PLEXUS - formed by branches from the left vagus + left cervical sympathetic ganglion. Lies in front of ligamentum arteriosum.

3. DEEP PLEXUS - formed by branches from b/l vagi + b/l recurrent laryngeal n. + b/l cervical & thoracic sympathetic ganglia. Lies on the right of ligamentum arteriosum.
- Sympathetic nerves: T1-T6.
- Parasympathetic supply: vagi.
- Pain: along sympathetics (via white rami communicantes of T1-T6).
- Afferent fibers for cardiovascular reflexes: along vagi.

4. BARORECEPTORS - in the walls of the aortic arch + carotid sinus for reflex control of HR.
