VARIANTS-ARCH OF AORTA

Anatomy-Thorax

VARIANTS-ARCH OF AORTA

1. Right aortic arch - aortic knuckle on the right on CXR. A/W congenital diseases.

2. Double aortic arches - one side is dominant. A fribrous/vascular band may connect the two posterior to the trachea + oesophagus, forming a vascular ring.

3. Bovine arch - where the CCA on the left shares a common origin with the brachiocephalic trunk on the right (like horns, similar to actual cows).

4. Abarent, retro-oesophageal right subclavian artery - can compress the oesophagus causing dysphagia, dysphasia.
