Anatomy-Thorax

JOINTS OF THE HEADS OF THE RIBS

1. Typical ribs (2-10) articulate with their own vertebral bodies + bit of the body above.
2. Their heads possess 2 articular facets to do so.
3. The ridge b/w the 2 articular facets is connected to the intervertebral disc by the intra-articular ligament.
4. The capsule of the synovial joints is reinforced by 3 radial ligaments (known as the hypochondral bow).
5. Ribs 1, 11, 12 articulate with their individual vertebrae only.
