THORACIC VERTEBRA-ARTICULAR PROCESSES

1. Peculiar, in that they are arranged in the arc of a circle to allow for rotation - which occurs more so in the thoracic spine.
2. The superior articular facet projects from the junction of the pedicle + lamina. It carries an oval articular facet that projects backwards + laterally.
3. The inferior articular facet projects from the junction of the pedicle + lamina. It carries an oval articular facet that projects forwards + medially.
4. The upper + lower cartilage-covered facets form synovial joints, with capsule + synovial membrane attached to articular margins.
