NECK-CRUCIFORM LIGAMENT

1. Cruciform ligament - made up of the transverse and longitudinal bands.
2. Transverse band - attaches to the back of the atlas.
3. Longitudinal band - attaches from the back of the body of the axis (C2) to the foramen magnum.
4. Rupture of this ligament can allow the dens to fatally compress the medulla.
