LUMBAR VERTEBRA-TRANSVERSE PROCESS

1. Formed from fused ribs (costal elements).
2. Posteriorly, each TP possesses 2 elevations with a groove b/w them - the mamillary process projecting back from the superior articular process; the accessory tubercle projecting from the root of the TP).
3. L1-4 TP appear spatulate and possess a vertical ridge on the anterior surface.

ATTACHMENTS OF THE L1 TP
4. Superior/inferior borders - intertransverse ligaments + muscles.
5. Anterior surface (medial to ridge) - psoas.
6. Anterior surface (lateral to ridge) - quadratus lumborum.
7. Posterior surface - erector spinae.
8. Tip of TP - lumbr fascia.
9. Medial + lateral arcuate ligaments.
