INTERVERTEBRAL FORAMEN

1. Produced between adjacent pedicles which form the upper and lower boundaries of each foramen.
2. In the thoracic + lumbar spines, it is bounded anteriorly by the lower part of the adjacent vertebra + intervertebral disc.
3. In the thoracic + lumbar spines, it is bounded posteriorly by the facet + facet joint capsule.
4 . The intervertebral foramina lodge the spinal nerve roots + dorsal root ganglia + spinal arteries and veins + recurrent meningeal nerve + fat and lymphatics.
