BLADDER-INNERVATION

CO-ORDINATION OF MICTURITION

1. Sacral micturition centre - intermediolateral grey of S2-S4, for reflex control of micturition, via the pelvic splanchnic n.

2. Pudendal nucleus - anterior horn of S2-4, innervated by the detrusor motor centre, controls the external sphincter via the perineal branch of the pudendal n.

3. Sympathetic efferent nerve supply to the bladder - intermediolateral grey T11-L2, facilitates bladder accomodation.

4. Detrusor motor centre - in pontine reticular formation, for relaxation of the external sphincter, via reticulospinal fibres.

5. Anterior vermis of the cerebellum - maintains tone in the pelvic floor musculature.

6. Cortical inhibitory centre - middle frontal gyrus, on the medial cerebral hemisphere, inhibits the detrusor motor centre.
