1. Site of important porto-systemic anastamosis.

ARTERIAL SUPPLY
2. Above the dentate line - superior rectal a. (branch of inferior mesenteric a.), small contributions from middle rectal a. (branch of internal iliac a.) and median sacral a.
3. Below dentate line - inferior rectal a. (branch of internal peudendal a.)

VENOUS DRAINAGE
4. Above dentate line - superior rectal v. (branch of inferior mesenteric v.)
5. Below dentate line - middle & inferior rectal v. (branches of internal peudendal v.)

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
6. Above dentate line - internal iliac nodes.
7. Below dentate line - superficial inguinal nodes.
