VEIN-INTERNAL JUGULAR, RELATIONS

AT THE JUGULAR FORAMEN
1. At first it lies behind the ICA.

IN THE CAROTID SHEATH
2. Then passes down to gain the lateral side of the ICA.
3. Vagus lies deeply b/w the ICA and IJV.
4. SCM lies over the carotid sheath, the IJV lying directly beneath the muscle.
5. Deep cervical LN are deeply adherent to the vein throughout its course.
6. Cervical plexus is posterior to the vein, lying on the SCALENUS MEDIUS + LEVATOR SCAPULAE.
7. Phrenic nerve lies posteriorly on the SCALENUS ANTERIOR.
8. Inferior root of ansa cervicalis curls around the lateral border of the vein.
9. Tendon of the OMOHYOID crosses the vein lower down.

LOWER DOWN
10. Thoracic duct crosses behind the left vein at C7.
