ROUVIERE SYSTEM LYMPHATICS-DEEP CERVICAL GROUP

1. Along IJV.

2. Two large nodes:
- Jugulodigastric (or tonsillar node).
- Jugulo-omohyoid which receive all the lymphatic from the tongue.

3. Can be divided into the upper nodes above the omohyoid (Level C6) and the lower ones below it. The lower nodes are under cover of the SCM.
- Superior deep cervical group drains the parotid, submandibular, submental (the latter may bypass it).
- Inferior deep cervical group: drains the superficial group, the superior deep cervical group, the submental nodes directly, the deep structures adjacent to it, and also lymph nodes in the axilla and pectoral region.

4. General rule:
- Upper part of pharynx, upper part of thyroid gland and of the supraglottic larynx (larynx above the vocal cords) drain into the upper deep cervical nodes.
- Lower part of all the above, the trachea and the infraglottic larynx drain into the lower deep cervical
nodes.
