ANTERIOR TRIANGLE

1. The general area is bounded by the mandible above, and anterior border of SCM laterally.
2. Beneath the investing layer of deep fascia are two groups of longitudinal muscles which extend from the mandible to the sternum.
3. These are supplied segmentally by C1-3.
4. Hyoid bone (at C3) provides attachment for two groups of 4 muscles each.
5. Suprahyoid muscles - digastric, stylohyoid, geniohyoid, mylohyoid.
6. Infrahyoid muscles (AKA strap muscles) - sternothyroid, omohyoid, thyrohyoid (attached to thyroid cartilage) , sternothyroid (attached to thyroid cartilage).
