COMMON CAROTID ARTERY

1. Arises on the left side from the arch of the aorta, where it lies in front of the SCA up to the sternoclavicular joint.
2. On the right, it ariss from the brachiocephalic trunk  which bifurcates into the CCA and SCA behind the sternoclavicular joint.
3. It lies medial in the sheath, with the IJV lateral to it and the vagus deeply placed b/w the two.
4. The sympathetic trunk lies behind it outside the carotid sheath.
5. Its surface marking is from the sternoclavicular joint to the greater horn of the hyoid bone (C3) where it bifurcates.
