CERVICAL PLEXUS-6 MUSCULAR BRANCHES

1. Prevertebral muscle - LONGUS COLLI, LONGUS CAPITIS, SCALENES.

2. Loop from C1 to hypoglossal nerve - GENIOHYOID, THYROHYOID. Forms the top part of the loop of the ansa cervicalis.

3. Inferior root of the ansa cervicalis - formed by union of branches from C2 + C3. Supplies the infrahyoid group (STERNOHYOID, OMOHYOID, STERNOTHYROID). Forms the bottom/posterior part of the loop of the ansa cervicalis.

4. C2-3 - SCM.

5. C3-4 - TRAPEZIUS.


6. Phrenic nerve - formed from C3, 4, 5. Runs down vertically over the obliquity of the SCALENUS ANTERIOR, from its lateral to medial borders, underneath the prevertebral fascia. Sole motor supply to the ipsilateral diaphragm + afferent supply to the pericardium, pleura, peritoneum.
