ANSA CERVICALIS

1. It lies in front of the IJV and supplies the infrahyoid muscles.
2. It is embedded within the anterior part of the carotid sheath and is calssifed as one of its contents.
3. It forms by the union of the superior and inferior roots.

SUPERIOR ROOT
4. Branch of CN XII and give off as the nerve loops below the posterior belly of the digastric.
5. It runs down on the front of the IJV and contains only C1 fibers which have hitch-hiked along CN XII.

INFERIOR ROOT
6. Formed by the union of branches from the anterior rami of C2 + C3.
7. The nerve spirals around from behind the IJV.
