NASAL CAVITY-BLOOD SUPPLY

1. Rich blood supply by branches of both internal & external carotid a. The main artery of the nasal cavity is the sphenopalatine, which is the terminal branch of the maxillary a. which passes through the sphenopalatine foramen.

LATERAL NASAL WALL
2. Superior: anterior & posterior ethmoidal a.
3. Middle & inferior concha: sphenopalatine a.
4. Posterior: pharyngeal a.

NASAL SEPTUM
5. Superior: anterior & posterior ethmoid a.
6. Anterior: greater palatine a.
7. Posterior: sphenopalatine a.

FLOOR
8. Greater palatine & superior labial a.

ANASTAMOTIC AREAS (COMMON SITES OF EPISTAXIS):
9. Woodruff area: in the inferior lateral nasal wall, posterior to the inferior concha - anastomosis of sphenopalatine & pharyngeal a.
10. Kiesselbach plexus: in the lower part of the septum (Little's area) - anastomosis of the anterior ethmoid, greater palatine, sphenopalatine and superior labial a.
