MAXILLARY ARTERY-BRANCHES OF FIRST PART

TIP: mnemonic - MIADA. 1 & 3 supply the cranium, 4 & 5 supply the ear. 2 supplies the lower teeth.

1. Middle meningeal a. - passes through foramen spinosum to supply the skull.

2. Inferior alveolar a. - meets the inferior alveolar n. in the mandibular foramen, passes forward in the mandible supplying pulps of mandibular teeth (dental branch), mandible, lip and skin (mental branch).

3. Accessory meningeal a. - passes through foramen ovale to supply dura at the floor of the middle cranial fossa + Meckel's cave.

4. Deep auricular a. - enters the ear to supply the EAM.

5. Anterior tympanic a. - passes deep to the tympanic membrane, through the petrotympanic fissure to the middle ear to join the circular anastomosis around the tympanic membrane.
