MAXILLARY ARTERY

1. Terminal branch of the ECA.

2. Enters the infratemporal fossa deep to the neck of the mandible and passing forward b/w the neck and sphenomandibular ligament.

3. Here the auriculotemporal n. lies above, maxillary v. lies below.

4. It passes b/w the 2 heads of the LATERAL PTERYGOID which divides it into 3 parts - before, on and beyond. Each part has 5 branches.

5. The third part gives 5 branches then leaves the fossa through the sphenopalatine foramen, changing its name to sphenopalatine a.
