CAPILLARIES

Anatomy-General

CAPILLARIES

Small capillaries are made of single layer of cells. But others can be made of 3 layers:

1. Tunica intima - endothelial lining with variable amount of underlying connective tissue. In arteries this includes the internal elastic lamina, veins do not possess an internal elastic lamina.

2. Tunica media - contains circular smooth muscles & external elastic lamina. Veins have a smaller media than arteries.

3. Tunica adventia.
