TENSION LINES

Anatomy-General

TENSION LINES

1. Tension lines and wrinkle lines of skin, due to the pattern of fibre bundles in the dermis run in characteristic ways.

2. Incisions made along creases and wrinkle lines heal with a minimum of scaring; hence incisions should preferably not be made across these lines.

3. Incisions should never across the flexure creases on the flexor surfaces of joints.
