SPINAL NERVES

1. 31 pairs of spinal nerves: 8 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, 1 coccygeal.

2. The anterior & posterior roots unite within the intervertebral foraminal, the DRG also lie within.

3. Anterior roots contain motor fibers. Posterior root s contain afferent fibers.

4. T1-L2 (thoraco-lumbar outflow) and S2-S4 (sacral outflow) also contain autonomic fibers.

5. All plexuses are formed by anterior rami (different from roots), the posterior rami do not form plexuses.
