1. Consist of narrow, spindle-shaped cells that lie in parallel.

2. In the bowel they are arranged in longitudinal and parallel configuration.

3. In the bladder and uterus they are arranged in spirals and whorls.

4. Autonomic innervation and posses gap junctions.
