SKIN

Anatomy-General

SKIN

1. Consists of epithelium (ectoderm) and connective tissue (mesoderm).

2. The uppermost layer of the epidermis is the stratum corneum - cornified or horny layer, consisting of dead cells (keratin).

3. In thick skin, such as on the sole of the foot, the stratum corneum is thick & the dermis is thin.

4. In thin skin, such as on the front of the forearm, the stratum corneum is thin + the dermis is thick.

5. The crease in the skin are flexure lines over joints. Along these lines the skin is thinner and is bound more firmly to the underlying deep fascia.
