SEROUS MEMBRANE

1. Membrane that lines a closed body cavity (pleura, peritoneum and pericardium) consisting of connective tissue covered by a layer of mesothelial cells arising from the mesoderm.

2. Forms into a visceral (adherent to viscera) & parietal layers (adherent to cavity), lubricated by a thin film of fluid (lymph).

3. The visceral layer possess no nerve supply, the parietal layer is supplied segmentally by spinal nerves.
