BONE

Anatomy-General

BONE

1. Bone is dense connective tissue embedded in a calcified ground substance called bone matrix.

2. A system of minute channels exist in the bone matrix, the smallest of which are called canaliculi, which communicate with larger spaces, the Haversian canals, containing blood capillaries.

3. Harvesian capillaries anastomose through Volkmann's canals which run perpendicular to Harvesian canals.

4. Compact vs. cancellous bone.

5. Molding of bone results from resorption from one side by osteoclasts and deposition on another by osteoblasts.
