MUSCLE SPINDLES

1. Embedded within skeletal muscles are up to 10 muscle spindles which are held together by connective tissue - intrafusal fibers.

2. Numerous in muscles which are concerned with fine movements.

3. Innervated by gamma motor neurons. Extrafusal fibers are innervated by alpha motor neurons.

4. They act as sensory receptors, transmitting information about the state of muscle fibers.

5. Their afferent fibers original from annulo-spiral and flower-spray endings.
