Anatomy-General

AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM-CELL BODIES

Pre-ganglionic cell bodies are always within the CNS:
1. Sympathetic - lateral horn cells within T1-L2 (thoraco-lumbar outflow).
2. Parasympathetic - certain cranial nerve nuclei & lateral horn cells within S2-4 (cranio-sacral outflow)

Post-ganglionic cell bodies are always within the PNS:
3. Sympathetic - within sympathetic trunk (extending from BOS to coccyx) or within collateral ganglia.
4. Parasympathetic - in ganglia located within viscera (called terminal ganglia).
