BILIARY TRACT-COMMON HEPATIC DUCT & VARIATIONS

1. Right & left hepatic ducts emerge from the porta hepatis and unite at its right margin - common hepatic duct (CHD).
2. This is 3cm long, joins the cystic duct to form common bile duct.

VARIATIONS
3. Right hepatic a. normally passes behind, but may pass in front of CHD.
4. Cystic duct may run paraller & to the right of the CHD for a variable disctance before uniting with it.
5. Cystic duct may spiral behind CHD before uniting with it from the left.
