RECTUS ABDOMINIS

1. O: medial head - pubic symphysis. Lateral head - pubic tubercle.
2. I: xiphoid process, costal cartilages 5-7.
3. 3 tendinous intersections present in the muscle - at the umbilicus, at the xiphisternum and one b/w the two. The two muscles on either side are separated in the midline by the linea alba.
4. NS: ventral rami of T7-12.
5. A: flexes trunk, compresses abdominal viscera.
