INTERNAL OBLIQUE

1. O: thoracolumbar fascia, anterior 2/3 of iliac crest, lateral half of inguinal ligament.
2. I: inferior borders of ribs 10-12, linea alba, pubis via the conjoint tendon.
3. Below the costal margin the aponeurosis splits around the rectus to rejoin at the linea alba. 1 inch below the umbilicus, the posterior edge ends in a curved free margin (the arcuate line of Douglas).
4. NS: ventral rami of T7-L1.
5. A: compresses and supports the abdominal viscera, flexes and rotates the trunk.
