ABDOMINAL AORTA-ANTERIOR RELATIONS

1. Above the coeliac trunk - liver, omental bursa and lesser omentum. Preaortic lymph nodes line the aorta anteriorly.

2. B/W origin of coeliac trunk and SMA - crossed by splenic v. & pancreas. Coeliac plexus at its root, intermesenteric plexus lower down.

3. B/W the SMA & IMA - crossed by left renal v., uncinate process of pancreas, 3rd part of duodenum. Inferior mesenteric plexus at the root of IMA.

4. Below the duodenum - covered by parietal peritoneum of the floor of the infracolic compartment, jejunal and ileal loops.

5. Divides into common iliac a. at L4.
